Thomas A. LaVeist, PhD

Dr. LaVeist is William C. and Nancy F. Richardson Professor in Health Policy and director of the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions at the Johns
Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He teaches courses in health inequality, health disparities, and health policy. He is a frequent visiting
lecturer at other universities and at professional conferences and workshops.
Dr. LaVeist often consults to federal agencies on minority health issues and racial disparities in health. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of
Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Commonwealth Fund, the Russell Sage Foundation, the Kellogg Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation, among others. He is author or editor of four books, including Minority Populations and Health: An Introduction to Health Disparities in the United States.
Dr. LaVeist received his BA degree from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, and his PhD degree in medical sociology from the University of Michigan.
