Steve Shields is the president and CEO of Manhattan Retirement Foundation (also known as Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community) in Manhattan, Kansas. Mr. Shields is a national
consultant, author, keynote speaker, and workshop education presenter on leadership and transformation in long-term care. At Meadowlark, he has led the creation of the
resident-led services model through self-led staff teams in household community. He is also a national leader in the creation of the "Household Model" and provides
consulting and education to providers on the model and its application.
Mr. Shields is co-author of "In Pursuit of the Sunbeam," a guidebook on transforming institutions into homes. It is accompanied by operating systems for organizations
who desire to take this approach to service and is funded through a grant from the Commonwealth Fund, the Kansas Department on Aging, and the Sunflower Foundation.
Mr. Shields serves on the advisory board of Kansas State University’s Center on Aging (where he is also a faculty member), the Fort Hays State University Endowment
Association, the Manhattan Community Foundation, and the Pioneer Network, as well as a number of other local boards. He is a graduate of Kansas State University.
